“Translate to Win”, an initiative, proudly presented by the Igbo Literacy Project through the Omenka App, in partnership with Indigenous Hands and Voices. This exciting endeavor is dedicated to promoting and digitizing the Igbo language, while celebrating the vibrant richness of Igbo culture and intellect. We invite Igbo students and scholars from all walks of life to seize this unique opportunity. Join us, not just to win exciting rewards, but to become a part of the historical legacy of the Omenka App. Embrace your chance to contribute to a brighter future for Igbo language and culture!


Competition Focus:

Translate a selected piece of Poem from the Book: Nature’s All > Notes from an African Village Boy by Dr. Emma Asonye” into accurate, meaningful, and beautifully written Igbo.

The selected poem will be unveiled after the registration period.

The top entry will be featured on the I-HAV Igbo Literacy Project (Omenka App) platform and receive recognition for promoting African languages and storytelling, and receive a winner’s prize of 100,000 naira. Other submissions will receive consolidation Prizes.

Open to Undergraduates and above

Deadlines:

Registration: Begins June 1 and ends June 15, 2025.

Translation submissions: Opens July 1 and Closes July 31, 2025.

Results And Award: Winner will be announced after a thorough revision of the submissions on the August 30, 2025

The Launch of the Omenka App

I-HAV in Collaboration with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Presents: The Launch of the Omenka App


I-HAV, in partnership with the Department of Linguistics, Department of Igbo, African and Communication Studies, and the Igbo Village and Institute of African Heritage Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, is proud to announce the official launch of the Omenka App.


Theme: "Omenka App as a Modern Tool for Igbo Studies"


This landmark event will showcase how digital innovation can preserve and promote Igbo language and culture. The launch ceremony will feature:

  • Cultural presentations by students
  • Academic presentations on language and technology
  • Official unveiling of the Omenka App
  • Interactive workshops led by industry experts
  • Networking sessions with professionals and alumni
